Party: Ship Dandies
Konguq-Human Wizard Captain
Ace-Human Rouge Quartermaster
Calix- Minotaur Marshal Night Watch and Battle Master
Oliver- Half-elf Bard and Navigation
With their plan in place the Dandies head to the keep where King Grisis Goldhide and his inner circle hold themselves up during the demon attack.
Just outside the door to the keep they meet a group of demonfolk resting from their failed attempt to break in the door. The group talks with them and the demonfolk give them the lay of the situation and how many might be inside of the Keep.
They figured a few guards might still be in there along with a woman with magic and the king with his wife and child. They decide to enter from the rooftop to get the jump on the group inside.
The demonfolk agree to join to help the fight after a quick rally from Oliver. Calix carries Zim up the side of the wall and Zim struggles to process what's going on around him. He struggles giving Calix a hard time, but Oliver helps keep him focused so the group reaches the top without incident.
They find a metal hatch leading into the keep and Ace slips in to get a good look around. He sees the king and his family sitting in a magic circle surrounding his throne with at least one guard keeping watch. Konguq conjures up a wind to help fly the party in with ease and the group manages to get the jump on the ogres.
Calix, Konguq, and Zim easily take out the first guard with an enlarged Zim now the size of the Ogres. Ace perches upon one of the pillars to snipe from above and Oliver takes perch underneath the throne to provide support. Konguq tries to disrupt the circle by altering the terrain, but the woman in the corner remains steadfast in her concentration. Oliver notices her touch an amulet on her to keep the concentration and calls out to Ace to steal it off of her. With a deft flick of a grappling hook and a distraction from Oliver's crossbow, Ace snatches the amulet, which begins to have adverse effects on him. This angers the Cleric greatly and she begins to charge at Ace.
With one of the guards down King Grisis charges towards Calix and the two go toe to toe. The lock blades as Zim comes from behind and begins to attack the king as well, swarming him.
The two guards that stood near the throne find Oliver's hiding place and grab the bard, flanking him and injuring him badly. He manages to slip out of their grasp and keep them on their toes.
King Grisis begins to falter as he is bombarded by Zim, Konguq and Calix and decides to try and make a run for it. He rushes to the door to try and escape but as he's about to shove it open Ace pegs him in the back of the head with a crossbow bolt and the king slumps dead against the door. The amulet still rejects Ace as it starts to inflict necrotic damage on him. The cleric tries as she might to attack Ace fails to climb the pillar. She is mobbed and taken out and slumps dead on the floor. The amulet in Ace's hand retaliates against him but he holds fast against the effects as it turns to solid black and clinks to the floor with a thud.
The queen and her child try to flee as one of the remaining guards rushes to her side. Calix corners them and is conflicted with his dilemma of either letting them go or killing them. He puts on a show to make it seem like he's attacking but gives them the opportunity to flee. The remaining guards try to put up a last stand against the Dandies but too quickly fall. Once the dust settles Ace goes to see if the royal family made it but sees that the Queen is dead and the young prince and the guard are surrounded by Hayner and the Devilfolk.
Ace, not wanting to see a child die, quickly tries to run to stop the onslaught. Oliver gives him his last inspiration allowing him to teleport quickly and closer to the scene. Ace confronts Hayner and tries to convince him to let the prince go. Both stand firm in their conviction and the guard sacrifices himself to help Ace and the Prince escape.
Hayner returns to the keep demanding that the others go and kill the prince but they quickly remind him that the contract was just for the king's head. When he tries to push back Oliver refuses until they speak with Laxle on the matter.
The group resummon their demons and Skoragnit efficiently lays down the law and Hayner reluctantly submits to the terms they agreed upon. He tells the remaining Dandies to get out of his sight. Oliver heads back to the ship to make sure Ace returned alright. Konguq and Calix go to check on Chrysalis.
Ace makes it back to the ship with the slightly shell shocked prince. When he arrives Morris is there to greet them but is worried about the lack of Konguq. Ace tries to assure him she's fine but Morris is impatient.
As Ace finally gets a chance to rest he quickly learns that Prince Vobble is wholeheartedly a spoiled brat of a boy.
Morris, no longer willing to wait, goes out to find Konguq and runs into Oliver. He stops Morris and assures him that Konguq is fine and that he would never lie to him. (Lie)
He accepts the answer and the two head back.
Konguq and Calix go to collect plate armor from Chrysalis. She informs them that it was already sent to the ship. The two leave on good terms and prepare to set out to Ice Reach.
Once they get back to the ship Calix and Konguq also get to learn of the Prince's behavior as Oliver frantically tries to make sure he doesn't eat his cats. The Dandies, not entirely sure what to do with the young princeling, put him in Calix's care to help straighten him out. Prince Vobble only agrees if he can learn how to kill Ace.
