Q&A 2

I ask the dandies questions weekly

Here are the responses

(Post Night of the Eye)

What is your character’s favorite season?

  • Ryai is an autumn guy. He likes the colors of the trees and the much nicer weather.(winter is second cause his birthday) I feel like he wilts in the summer lol.
  • Oliver craves summer. He prefers heat and more people hang around the port towns so more money is to be made.
  • Ace loves the summer. Warmth and sunshine really perks up his mood and makes him feel more alive.
  • Shim seems like a winter child. They probably love the snow and cold air, even if it means working outside can be harder.

What relationship does your character have with their parents and siblings? (Or found family if they don't have them)

  • Ryai's has been stated before. But I think he's remembering finally how much his father cares about him. It's cementing that what he's doing is the right thing.
  • Oliver thinks of his parents as an inspiration honestly. Their story was probably the first ballad he wrote and is probably the one he preforms the best. He I feel takes a lot of pride in being a half elf. He does worry about what will happen to Ivelos though once his mother passes.
  • Vorlo always viewed his older sister as a mother figure, but as they grew older they began to resent each other: Torah found Vorlo aimless and lazy, Vorlo found Torah short-sighted and reactionary. He hopes she made it out of Solace alright, but is in no great hurry to look for her.
  • Broud was born to be the symbol of a trade union between his mother's town and his father's village. He found his mother was more interested in teaching him her trade than in actually raising him. When he had to move in with his paternal family after a "clobbering incident", he found them dull, boorish and cruel. He has had very little contact with both sides for years.
  • Vodren felt very loved and supported in his goblin tribe, even though he was a human. He never felt like an outsider and felt like he contributed very much to the society. He hopes one day to return and see that the village is still standing, if only just to see his mentor and show him how far he's grown.
  • Calix had a close relationship with his family up until the occupation of the dragon armies. He always had a strong sense of justice and was one of the few free thinkers in his clan. He is an only child but was never spoiled. His family are secretly supportive of his defection /exile.
He hasn't been in contact with them in quite a while but hopes to one day. See them freed from the oppression
  • Shim adores his family and they in turn love him. He has his parents, obviously and a few gnome siblings older than him. You put them together in a room and its all hugs and rapid gnomish as they talk about their newest inventions or stories or discoveries. He wants to go home with something to show off, something to make them proud but honestly they'd be proud to see anything he accomplished and they can't wait to see it.
  • Ace has mentioned before but he and his family have a very strained relationship. He's always butted heads with his father, never agreeing on much of anything and has had his share of bruises from it. Quickly, disagreeing with his father turned to disappointing his mother and she rarely had a good thing to say about her eldest anymore. Ace "affectionately" called his brother a snitch, as his younger brother Elliot often would tattle whenever Ace had something bad to say about his father or had done something "unbefitting of a Ravenwing." The way Ace feels it, Tarth was more family to him than any of them and the Dandies even more than Tarth.

What is your character’s favorite food? Beverage?

  • Ace lovess his seafood, the spicier the better XD. He used to drive Tarth insane with how much spice he added or wanted. As for beverages, he isn't so picky, but his go to at a tavern is a classic mead. He's always liked the taste.
  • Shim lovessss a home-cooked meal, they swear up and down that mom makes the best food ever, even if sometimes her oven's blow up while she's tried to improve it. But Shim will talk up and down about her stews, and how much they miss them. As for beverages, they like whenever something has bubbles in it but especially when its sparkling water. An old friend made an invention to make it that worked twice before it exploded. Shim would love to make it again, the weird bubbling water made them all giggly and they'd love to share it with others.
  • Ryai's rather specific when it comes to his favorite. He prefers game meats to the usual beef, pork, and poultry he's come across. Olives and Artichokes are some of his favorites as well. If coffee is a thing he drinks it black.(much to the dismay of those around him on a caffeine high) If not it's bitter tea. alcohol is also a comfort
  • Oliver is a menace for sweet flavored things. Probably about a third of his rations are dried fruits cause he loves the stuff. He'll probably purchase candied fruit whenever it shows up cause they're cheap, but he's definitely a frequent flyer at the pie place in Greentown (if he didn't rack up enough on his "tab" anyway. The pie man however is the one person he's managed to pay back at some point.) In that same vein he loves juice and sweet wines.
  • Calix loves a good steak. He's not too picky on how it's cooked, he'll take rare or well. Lightly seasoned with whatever is available. Even though he comes from the pirates capital of the world, he's not too keen on fish. For beverages, he prefers a lightly sweetened iced tea, preferably black tea but he'll take whatever is available.Vodren dreams of the potato stew he got in solace. There was something about the care and love put into it that warmed his heart as much as his belly. Normally he doesn't think too much about the quality of what he eats since normally he just eats whatever is within his diet, but someone making a meal for him special makes him feel really good. For beverages, I think he enjoys... Hmm. Maybe like a lemonade? Lol

What would your character say their best trait would be?(and what do you think it is?)

  • I could see Shim saying its their optimistic attitude! And they're right but I would also add they're loyalty. Once you're a friend, it's ride or die
  • Ace would say his good looks and charming personality. I'd say it's more his kindness
  • Ryai would think it's his intelligence. I imagine he usually thinks himself the smartest in the room despite that not always being the case (some elven traits are hard to break) I think however it's his resilience and drive. A lot happened to him in a very short amount of time and despite some of his methods of coping not being good, he still finds a reason to keep going and to do and be better.
  • Oliver would say his ability to work a crowd and let things roll off his back. It's hard to be insulted when you've heard most of them before. I'd say however he's pretty clever. He's not book smart, but he's well traveled and has learned quite a bit despite that

Who in the party would your character prioritize rescuing, in dire circumstances?

  • Calix: the captain in a heartbeat, then hug
  • Vodren: don't fucking make him pick lol
  • Ryai ain't beating any allegations. Even back in the Test of High Sorcery if it came to it he would have failed to make sure Vodren lived.
  • Oliver would go for Konguq as well lol. Though more because she is a wizard like him than because she's captain
  • Broud: Shim needs help the most.
  • Vorlo: he owes Ace big time.
  • Konguq: I’m abstaining from the question
  • Bomba: Vodren, my legs will move faster than his.

What does your character’s name represent to them? (Or: why as a player did you choose your character’s name?)

  • Since Ryai chose his name, to him it represents his own agency. (And he likes that it makes him smile when he says it) For me I wanted a name that was going to be easy but unique. I put more thought into Ryai than Nonasse because I wanted Nona to feel wrong.
  • Oliver doesn't think too much about his name. Just don't call him Ollie. I liked it cause it sounded just playful enough for a Bard. It only made perfect sense afterwards since it's Germanic origin makes it mean "elf warrior".
  • Konguq’s name came from Fantasy Name Generator, specifically Inuit names. I love that her name means Snow Goose. It’s actually spelled K-a-n-g-u-q but I liked Kit's misspelling(ope)
  • Bomba’s also came from fantasy name generator in a way, I combined 3 Gnomish names from there and ran them through an anagram generator. Every generator I found would not take the whole name, but what it did take spat out Bombastic. I really liked that, so I shortened it to Bomba.
  • Vodren Churuv was a name he chose when he came of age in the tribe, picking it out of a human's book that one of the rangers found one day from an expedition. He doesn't remember his original name, and mostly doesn't really care to find out what it was. He has mild curiosity, but he tries not to think of his time with his birth parents because he has no emotional attachment to those memories.
  • Calix's name was given to him by his parents who both came up with it in the moment and spoke it at the same time moments after his birth. They felt like he was their fate to bring into the world and cherished him dearly

Does your character have any noticeable scars? If so, what are their stories?

  • All of Ryai's scars happened in game and are under his clothes. Despite Skoragnit's work there are some he wanted to keep. Specifically he kept the sword wound he got in Solace(the only time he got hit in savage worlds) the bite from Cyrus and the shark bite from Good Bay.
  • Oliver has the one on his cheek. Ceilla knows it extends much further down and gets bigger. He told her it was from one of his trials in his test of High Sorcery, but refused to elaborate.
  • Konguq’s scars are all on her neck. From this adventure.
  • Bomba is covered in tiny ones, from her butterfly swords
  • Vodren has many tiny scars, all from before Habakkuk chose him. He has never tried to heal any of them by concentrating his magic though, he cherishes the marks and imperfections on his body - they help him stay humble and remember that he is still a human.
  • Calix doesn't have as many as you might expect. Almost all of the scars he has are from when he was little, nicks and scratches from getting into things he shouldn't. The scar over his eye is from "a training exercise gone wrong" is all he'll ever say when asked.

How did your character spend their childhood? Where did they grow up/who were their childhood friends?

  • Shim's childhood friends were their siblings. They have quite a few, mostly older but a couple younger too and they spent they're time running about, tinkering with this and that and trying all sorts of new things. And of course, Bomba who Shim loved to show off all his new tinker toys too, even if she didn't really understand the technical stuff XD
  • Ace's favorite thing to do was sneak out of studies, figure out how to get past maids or annoying tutors and never let Dad find out. He always had too much energy to be sitting still, usually running about in the garden until he felt like his legs would fall off. He always made the quickest friends with the kids he could get to sneak out of parties with him or kids who could keep up with him.
  • Oliver probably was either really cool with or the bane of a lot the apprentices around Wayreth. (Whether or not some of them are still around depends on if they survived the Test of High Sorcery.) He was also pretty close with a lot of familiars. He was definitely known as a troublemaker by the other wizards, poking where he shouldn't. (Something Dad tried to curb by giving him creative outlets. Blessed are the souls who put up with an energetic 6 year old with a violin. He's very familiar with the silence spell) By the time he became of age for training it was definitely a favor that made Allon take him on.
  • Ryai grew up a lonely kid, and struggled with getting along with his peers. It didn't get easier as he grew older feeling wrong. His only friend growing up was Paladithel and as children they did get along. Though as they got older and societal expectations were placed on them things got progressively worse. Otherwise he grew very close with his caretakers having fond memories of sparing with Ayder (and accidentally stabbing his hand. That one he cried for about an hour over) and curling up in his father's lap while he read.
  • Vodren had a few close friends that he developed as he slowly started to learn the language of his tribe, and as he played and grew up he never felt too different from the goblins, but never really felt like he fit in. He played and laughed and learned how to live in the wilds, always pretty content with his place in the world. As soon as his senses started awakening around age 13, he slowly grew more distant with his old pals while he started to devote his life to learning under the tribe's shaman. He viewed the shaman as a mentor and teacher.
  • Calix had a very tight friend group when he was a little kiddo, getting into light mischief. Reprimands and Capital punishment was regular, but it never really bothered him. However, after years of watching the training drills and looking out at the sea, swimming, and playing out battle strategies with his toys and friends, he realized that he needed to grow up. He made new friends and joined some old ones while training, still getting into light mischief every now and then, but when the first ceremony of anointing officers came and he was passed over, he put his nose to the grindstone and became very serious, but fondly remembers and cherishes the memories he made.

If they were a ghost, how would they haunt in the afterlife?

  • If Ryai passes before having children he would stay with his father until he passed. Might be the first time Ryai ever sees his mom too lol
  • Oliver would still travel, as stories would talk about hearing strange violin music coming from nowhere on ships and in taverns.
  • Shim would still try and tinker, and barring that, would haunt machines to make them move without science. Either to try and see how the insides work or to make people shocked or smile.
  • Ace as of now, would probably stay on the ship. Keep an eye on the crew, maybe you feel a breeze where one shouldn't be or hear the creak of a board when no one is there

Konguq would be with her ancestors and also spend her time as a spirit of the ocean.

  • Bomba knows how obnoxious ghosts can be so she stays at the temple with Master Zyl

Does your character ever want to “settle down” with a spouse, children, house, etc.?

  • Ryai I think would want to start a family at some point, provided his partner is fine with raising kids on the road. Traveling and seeing all that the world has to offer for the rest of his life sounds great. Sounds even better with family to come with him. even with the potential prejudices that will come with it
  • Oliver considered it very seriously once. He hasn't met anyone yet to convince him to do so again.
  • Broud feels like his legacy is gonna be his work as a scholar, not a family he creates
  • Vorlo is a true romantic at heart. He won't settle for anyone but his one true love & if she doesn't appear, he's more than content to live out his days amongst his friends instead.
  • Bomba has never thought about it. She likes kids, and she likes the idea of being with a partner, but she isn’t totally convinced that her person is out there
  • Shim will but their settling doesn't necessarily mean family or even marriage. They haven't met anyone to make that connection with and it's not on their mind. But one day they'll settle back down in Mt Nevermind and wow the others with their work.
  • Ace... is conflicted. When he was younger it was a given. Now he's free as a bird and on one hand he never wants to stop traveling. On the other, maybe he'd want to if he found the right home, the right person but he's barely sure of himself let alone who he'd settle with.

What animal best represents your character?

  • Ryai was actually made with a fox in mind, but I'm not entirely sure that is going to fit anymore. Hilariously I told myself a wolf did not fit him, but the narrative has wolf written all over for him lol.
  • Oliver is a stray cat through and through. (He's in good company )
  • I feel like Bomba is a honey badger(Kit: Immune to poison too)
  • I think some kind of hoofed animal for Konguq. Like an elk or moose?
  • I'd say Ace is a raven, like his namesake but he fits more with the crow than the raven. Crows are very social, smart birds with protective tendencies and strong bonds with their flocks. Fits Ace perfectly.Shim is a hedgehog. Literally saw this question and my brain said "Shim is a hedgehog, no we shall not elaborate" so take that as you will.

What type of bender(from avatar the last airbender) is your character?

  • Ryai is a firebender (duh) but I get the feeling he's got a lot of water bending techniques in his move set to the dismay of his formal teacher Quivalin.
  • Oliver is an airbender. But miss him with that shave your head thing, or most of Airbender culture. He's very much doing his own thing, enjoying the nomadic part of air nomad.
  • Broud is fire-bendingist fire bender that ever fire bent.
  • Vorlo is that no-talent, dirty, airbender kid.
  • Hmm water for Konguq
  • I feel earth or maybe a nonbender for Bomba (DM:Bomba's so tough & strong everybody thinks she's an earthbender.)
  • Shim is the non benderiest non bender to ever not bend.
  • Ace is probably a firebender. Its on brand
  • Calix is a non bender
  • Vodren is an earth bender

What does your character dream about at night?

  • Shim dreams about their home a lot. Or making something so amazingly wonderful, that it impresses all their friends and family. They also have a reoccurring one of introducing all of you to their parents, and it being a peaceful happy time like it should be.
  • Ace has muddled dreams. Like he's underwater, and can't hear the people above, but they're right in front of him. Sometimes it's Konguq or Morris or one of the crew. They're talking to him, asking him something but he can't hear them and if he gets close, they vanish. He'll see Ryai and Vodren, but always just out of reach, and he can't run in this murky nothing to grab them. Sometimes its Tarth, mouthing the most important thing he needs to know but he can't hear, and he can't shout for him to wait. He'll try to get close, push past whatever holds him back but he can't and he usually wakes out of breath. Those are the one's he hates most.
  • Oliver usually dreams of making his parents proud and earning the respect and admiration of those around him. He'll get a nightmare about his test every now and then, but those have gotten less frequent as time moves on and the longer he's away from her
  • Ryai pre-darken wood really struggled with "dreams" with him being stuck on that memory. However, after darken wood is when he got his visions. Usually he finds himself standing under Solinari as someone guides him through. (Usually just one figure, but sometimes two or three. They never talk and he can't see their faces but feels like he knows them. The one figure always holds his hand throughout and seems reluctant to let him go) Once the vision ends however he ends up playing certain memories on repeat. Good ones include, the sunrise after he made it out of Qualinost the first time, finding Callum, seeing Solace, meeting Vorlo and Broud, fighting the wereboar, getting drunk with everyone at the Stuffed Hen, and the aftermath of the blue cloak fire. (when memories of Vikaze comes through he tries to skip to Broud's funeral pyre. )
  • Vorlo's dreams are unpleasant, reminders of struggling during his mandatory military training or being frustrated trying to find a specific herb in an unwelcoming forest. Dreams are rare, though, due to his "self-medication".
  • Broud is a champion lucid dreamer. He tends to indulge his natural urges, playing the hero or the monster in his imagination that he may better remain unbiased during waking hours
  • Bron hasn't slept in years. He has no wish to return to what awaits in slumber.(Kit:You know I go through phases of "oh yeah Bron is dead" and then you suddenly bring him up again)
  • Bomba’s dreams are usually astral projection. Zyl is usually with her and they travel all over the country. He takes her to see places of interest he saw on his travels and places he feels she needs to see, like poverty stricken villages or the results of pollution. She loves flying among the stars.
  • Vodren dreams of the people that he's met and had an impact on but is no longer able to be connected with... Or protect - The farmers of crossing, galera, his goblin family. He often dreams about being with them again and recounting old stories
  • Calix often has dreams in which he's leading and participating in battles that he's read about or heard of, analyzing them in his dreams to determine what alternative outcomes could have occurred if The general had made different decisions

What's your character's favorite way to spend their downtime?

  • Vorlo: Drugs
  • Ryai writes and chronicles his feelings when he gets the chance. When out on the road he loves sketching all the different landscapes, animals and people he's met. (There are a lot of sketches of the party in there. Though usually in states of rest since that's when everyone can sit still long enough for him to do it.) It's a little harder on the ship since open sea gets boring after awhile. though getting colored inks/watercolor paints would be nice After that it's talking to (himself) Marovie about what he's working on and reading whatever books he has available.
  • Oliver obsessed with his perfection will maintain and tune his violin any chance he gets. It's the same one his father gave him and it still looks like the day he got it, if not better. ( His violin is an older make, made of rose wood and has some engraving in on it that is elven in design. He gave her the name Aleina, a name he sadly doesn't recognize.) Resting in a town though he will take the time to feed the stray cats.
  • Broud has quite a few hobbies: his alchemical dabbling, learning local stories, trying new food. His favorite pastime is taking a couple days to "go wild." Literally walks six hours into the wilderness, stakes out an acre, & lives like a rabid animal for a few days. Not only is it cathartic as hell, running on the edge of instinct frees his subconscious up to process his scholarly work.
  • Shim is always tinkering with something during any leisure time. They also like to try new foods wherever they go, tasting is a favorite hobby~
  • Ace will write in his poetry book, usually in secret if he can. Otherwise you'll find him wandering towns, watching people, playing games in taverns or taking Callum around for walks and play time.
  • For Vodren, meditating and praying, unwinding with vorlo, and spending time in nature. I'd also like to think that he tries to practice cooking every now and again.
  • Calix likes to do drills, stay vigilant and analyze The current situations, reflecting on what's happening and how to produce better outcomes, as well as just chilling

In character, name three things you consider yourself to be good at, and three things you consider yourself to be bad at

  • Ryai: My studies have lead me down a path where I am quite knowledgeable about many particular subjects. When I started this journey however I didn't realize how in tune with the arcane I would become. I'm not bad at talking either, but I think it's more knowing what to say and less my personality swaying them. People have also complimented my journal sketches. I don't consider myself a creative person, but I take pride in them. That being said, I'm not good at seeing little details. If you give me time to investigate sure, but I do not get that chance often. I'm grateful for those around me that are more perceptive. I'm still pretty amazed what the others are able to see. I'm not a great liar either. Ace says I have too many obvious "tells" and Ayder says they sound good, but the logic doesn't always track. Also please don't ask me to lift anything bigger than 40 pounds. It's going to look sad and pathetic for both of us.
  • Oliver: Friends I live for the applause and she loves me too~
Some call it talent, but I'm not going to insult myself like that. It was a lot of work, but Teacher knew I could do it. With her guidance and my drive I'd consider myself a "jack of all trades"

Also with her guidance I've had to learn how to get out of quite a few slippery scenarios. Pretty well might I add. If you can't convince them... well I'd rather get away.

Unfortunately, I'm not the stealthy type. Was something I gave up on rather quickly when trying to sneak snacks as a kid and my mother's familiar, Magpie, would always catch me and tell her.

I'm also not the bookish type either. I'd rather learn by "doing" instead of just reading about it. Though after being around the others who actually paid attention to that education I am starting to see the flaw in that logic.

And I'm not fighting up close. I'll defend myself but fighter I am not. Though between Mr. Lighting and Big Buff Beef Puff I really shouldn't have to.

  • Shim: "i can make a good bomb!" (Anything else?) "Oh, right! I'm pretty good at identifying things in nature! Like that time I licked the rock! Or that time I poked the tree! I'm also good at 'Bomba-ology!'" (what?) "You know, knowing what Bomba likes and how to explain it so she gets it and doesn't get confused! 'Bomba-ology!'" (Right...) "Right! Oh but don't ask me to dance! I've got two left feet and not enough coordination hehe... Anddd don't ask me to lift anything too big. My arms are too skinny, that's what Bomba's for! Oh and please don't ask me too much about religious stuff... it sounds neat! But I mean... Vodren and Broud are right there..."
  • Ace: "my good looks? No? Not funny? Alright well...
I'm a damn good thief if nothing else. Guess that's why Aron asked for my help here...
I'd call myself a good liar, can trick almost anyone if I have the chance... haven't wanted to in a while though...
I'm good in a fight. Get me behind a guy and they won't last long. Though, that's not always a good thing...
Bad stuff too? Okay, I can work with that.
Don't ask me shit about magic. Any kind of it, flies right over my head. Ryai was always good at explaining it but still all those technical terms? Pfff, yeah no can't get it.
Also don't ask me to do any tracking. I grew up in a city and thrived there thank you very much. The woods? Eh.... not so much...
And I don't care what Konguq says: I am no religious man. I don't know most gods or what they do, and I am no cleric." (But the symbols you wear...?) "That's... complicated, and I am not going to say anything else on the matter"

  • Bomba: Okay, I’m really great at punching. I’m light on my feet and have you seen my arms? I have ghost powers! So that’s one. Number two? I’m pretty good at dancing! A couple of my moves are based on dances! My parents enrolled me in dance classes when I was a tot and it’s my favorite way to express myself. Number three, I’m actually a really good at tinkering with stuff ghostly voices come from her bag but that’s just part my culture, nothing to brag about. What am I not good at? Um, Master Zyl says I am not so good at meditation. I fall asleep a lot, but I can’t help it. Centering myself makes me sleepy! I’m also not so good at listening. Not in general, just when people are talking. It starts to sound like buzzing noise after a while. Especially when Ryai or Broud start going. Lastly, I don’t think I’m very good flipping pancakes! Weird I know, but it’s true! I always hit the side of the pan,
  • Konguq: Let’s see, three things I’m good at. Just like anything? (Anything) okay. I am great a magic; casting, memorizing, I have even created some spells on the fly. I am also pretty great at taking charge- (Morris: Hell yeah, last night she made me—) that’s enough out of you! Ahem, where was I? Oh, yes. I think I great at leading our team. They could have chosen anyone to lead them, but they chose me. I must be doing something right. Lastly, I think I’m a really good at talking to people. I try to be available to anyone who wants to talk. I think the make of a great captain is someone who have the trust of their crew. Things I’m not great at. I’m not a graceful loser. It’s a habit I’m working on. I’m not great at medicine yet, but I want to learn. I’m not great at taking criticism, but Ace is helping me with that. They all say I have a temper.
  • Calix: I find myself excellent at battlefield analysis and decision making. I can always trust my gut in the heat of combat. Furthermore, I have a very good passive awareness, partially thanks to my fancy glasses, partially thanks to my military training. Finally I think I'm good at forming connections with allies. I come off as very cold sometimes, but I hope my.. friends.. compatriots.. realize that I do that because of my training and role but I really do care about people beyond the battlefield. Obviously I'm terrible at lying, as has been showcased many times in tense situations. I also will admit that I can be a bit headstrong, speaking over people at times and dominating conversations. Finally, I'm very bad at dodging lightning.
  • Vodren: well I don't know, I find good success when I am able to focus and meditate, although sometimes it doesn't work out the way I want it to. I'm really good at connecting with people, seeing the person within and finding the good in people, even when there is none. And finally, I think I fit my role in the party really well, and for that I'm really glad and I hope that other people can appreciate that. I kind of suck at melee combat haha, sometimes I panic a lot in tense situations. And we all know that I have a very harsh view of myself and have trouble finding the good in certain situations

What are you still resisting? Is there a specific belief or past experience makes that sense of resistance so strong?

  • Shim: "well.... hmmm.... okay but we keep this a secret? You and me?" (Sure...?) "Great okay... there's this icky, icky part of me that I'm being super brave about... after the elves? I said all that stuff about still doing good and not running away but... I am so scared and it took every ounce of me to not just hightail it back home and try something else... it's still really hard to not run off but I don't want to. I want to be brave and strong and face this head on. So... I'm trying really hard..."
  • Ace: "I cannot believe I am doing this... I seriously doubt I have anything to say. I in fact do not want to do this shit at all thank you. I am not resisting anything, I am doing just fine actually, just dandy if you wanna make a pun sure! Just... peachy..." (You cannot pout your way out of this one) "I can certainly try... listen, I've said it before yeah? I'm not resisting any call to clerichood like Konguq keeps saying... which I know is the first thing you people are all thinking. Maybe it worked a couple of times, maybe it even felt... never mind I am not resisting it cause its not real! Just have it all in your heads like something sparked inside me, which it didn't and I'll tell you why! It's not for men like me, okay? So how could I be resisting it if its not happening, hm? Told you, nothing to answer!" (Not a thing? Just because that's the first thing you thought of) "Not a damn thing! Nothing! No clerichood, no knighthood wherever that came from, and no, no making eyes at... someone... even.... no, none of that and yes I saw that look Oliver, I know what you were thinking with that filthy mind of yours... fuck off... all of you, I'm done dammit."
  • Oliver: He chuckles at Ace's outburst at him Like bathing a cat~ (Can you focus?) Hm? Oh right, what I am resisting. Well whatever it is, it's not as violently as Ace here. Though, I don't resist much of anything really~ (Oh, then let's change the subject. What was in the letter you showed Konguq and Morris?) That-his smile fades as his posture goes rigid that was from a time that's past. It doesn't mean anything anymore. (Then why do you still have it?) Oh you are a nosey little- Fine, I have it cause I don't want to forget how I used to feel back then yet. I should just toss the damn thing but every time I've tried the regret gets to me. A part of me still wants to try to be the man she believed me to be.
  • Ryai: I-not pulling punches I guess? He gives a nervous laugh, his face slightly going pink (You don't have to be anxious) Sorry, just the immediate knee jerk answer- (Oh? Are you thinking about-) No! I mean yes, but that really shouldn't be the answer here...I don't think? I'm not really resisting how I feel about him. But I don't really think I should tell him either. (Why not?) Cause haven't I caused him enough trouble? Haven't I caused everyone enough trouble? I'm not entirely sure I'm deserving of it anyway... I'm not sure I deserve a lot right now.
  • Calix: I'm resisting processing the belief that Good people are choosing to side with the dragon armies. I left because I saw what was happening to these people, being swayed by promises of power and safety in the impending war. I truly want to believe That good People can choose wisely, not just what's the easiest option. And I really hope that my family and friends are safe, but eventually I'll have to face the reality that they may not be, in whatever form that looks like
  • Vodren: I'm still resisting the fact that I'm good at what I do. I've made profound impacts in multiple settlements, with innumerable people, save lives, and brought back kong'uq from the dead by pulling some magic out of my ass. (Habbakuk helped then didn't he?) Yeah, I guess. I guess that means I'm just a good cleric. And I think we all know why I feel this way

What is your character’s guiltiest pleasure?

  • Is Ryai ever wearing a dress/skirt again? most likely not. Does he sometimes twirl when he thinks no one is looking to see his robe do the big swish? Absolutely.
  • "How many sets of clothes do you need Oliver?" Rummaging through Ryai's things on the ship and finding the clothes he got from Vanthanoris "Eight. why?"
  • Vodren: drugs
  • Calix: he really really really likes card games and has gotten into a bit of trouble before because of some poor, drunken decisions

What would be your character’s theme song?

Who knows you better than anyone? Do you trust them with that knowledge?

  • Paladithel knew Nonaesse the better than anyone. They grew up together and saw each other's worst sides. He knows how spiteful and naive she could have been. However I think Vodren probably has the clearest picture of who Ryai is. And if he wasn't okay with that he wouldn't hold his hand.
  • Teacher knows exactly who Oliver is as a man. What he was capable of. Oliver prays he doesn't run into her again because of it.
  • For Vodren this is a tough one. I think Ace might understand him the best, but he trusts Ryai probably more than anyone
  • For Calix I think it's his childhood friend back in his homeland. He thinks of him often and hopes that he's not under too much subjugation, or worse, that they'll face on the battlefield
  • For Shim, outside of their family its Bomba. And, come hell or high water, Shim trusts Bomba with their secrets.
  • Ace would probably say Konguq, Morris or Vorlo. They always seem to look right through him and he trusts them all implicitly. Even if he gets feisty with Konguq for her more accurate reading of him XD
